Kids Drawing and Writing

 There is an important connection between drawing and writing. Kids who draw a lot naturally want to add words to their writing.  The art comes before the words.  Kids think in pictures.

The big thing in our house right now is Transformers Rescuebots. Which I have to say is a pretty good show for my sons. It has some great vocabulary and it doesn't have any violence. My sons have been playing Rescuebots nonstop. We just visited the Norman Rockwell museum with the kids.

Drawing Kid: Playing Through Art

The artwork I have been seeing lately from my drawing kid seems to have instantly gone to another level.  My son is paying attention to little details more.  He seems to go through stages like this with his drawings.  Each time he attempts something new the quality of his artwork goes down and then goes up really fast.  

I think this is true of a lot of other areas of children's learning.  Often, adults jump in when kids are learning because they seem them struggle.  As a teacher, I always encourage parents not to do this.  A child who can work his own way through problems is a powerful learner.
